De Intel 64-architectuur biedt 64-bits verwerking op platforms voor servers, werkstations, desktopcomputers en mobiele apparaten wanneer deze wordt gecombineerd met ondersteunende software. De Intel 64-architectuur verbetert de prestaties door toe te staan dat systemen meer dan 4 GB aan zowel virtueel als fysiek geheugen toewijzen.
Via Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x) kan één hardwareplatform als meerdere 'virtuele' platforms fungeren. Deze technologie verbetert de beheermogelijkheden doordat de uitvaltijd wordt beperkt en waarborgt de productiviteit doordat de computeractiviteiten worden ondergebracht in afzonderlijke partities.
